Has this been done before? eh I thought it would be pretty cool , hopefully not too painful, to share out first time whether it is composing a piece for a short film, 1st acting gig, screen play etc.. Good or bad and any advice. How do you get over your jitters. Also, what is the biggest problems you guys faced? I know for me, my biggest problem is not knowing how to read/write music... GASP. I know how can I compose if I don't fully know the craft. I'm learning. I was always the type to play by ear. Another problem was trying to get work without a degree. I first went to college for Law not at age 22(im getting old) I decided to go back to University to get a B.F.A, so hopefully that goes well.
Wow, I really rambled. So yeah, any 1st time stories or problems you faced? (a handful of questions all at once huh lol)
:) Thanks. I figured it would be a great discussion. Share some laughs and gain advice in the process.
first film was a 20-minute horror short, scored for free. It was a great way to figure out how i should approach scoring for the rest of my life. A baptism of fire, is worth the water.
I'm not but have a great time. Its a lovely place! Do you have a stall lined up?
My company Scruffbag Production has a short film Once Removed in the short film corner and I'm going to Marche Du Film to try seek funding for the feature. Never been before - any tips?
Sounds good, I hope you're successful! I've never been there to promote so all I can tell you is that it's pretty hectic! Oh and people love trying to take your photo so they can sell them to you. Loads of press there so you should try and take advantage of that too. Good luck!
I've been there a few times. I made this video about it: http://www.releasing.net/cannesmarketteaser.html Go around and study the market. Daily passes aren't that expensive. Also go to the major distribution companies and meet as many heads of production as you can. Come back here and report :-) I know you're going to be busy, but this is how you can help the indie filmmakers. The market trends change all the time and you will learn things that are happening for the first time.
Thanks guys, all very helpful. will take a look at the Video Vic. I am sure we are going to be really hectic but looking forward to it. Fortunately there are three of us in the company so we can hopefully spread the work load and also cover three times as much.
I'll be there in Cannes. Easy to find me, based in Riviera C4.
