I am new in the film industry and taking my first baby steps. I just finished the first draft of my first full length movie script and I am wondering where I take it from there. How do people actually go from the script to the movie? What do I need to do in order to get there? I have been asking myself this question for some days and got no answer, so I try here!
Thanks in advance - Isabella

I base my script on two things: firstly, the research I did while working on my MA thesis in International Law and Settlement of Disputes at the United Nations- mandated University for Peace, where I did a research on the violation of international humanitarian law during the military invasion in Iraq 2003; secondly, on my experience of working as a project manager for refugee resettlement in my country, where I received refugees (women and children) from Al-Waleed refugee camp in Iraq.
During my education I lived with students from low-developed countries and post/present conflict zones - I shared house, among others, with a military personnel; a guy from Afghanistan who worked for the UN and a former fighter pilot from Iraq, who had served for 20 years in Saddam's army, before the invasion in 2003. I did my education in 2006-2007. A good friend of mine from Lebanon was close to leave the university and go back to Lebanon when Israel started bombing the country in September 2006, she rather wanted to stay with her family in a war zone then being in a peaceful country and wait. All this and many more things has influenced me. I think I have pretty good knowledge of the subject, even though experience on the ground would improve it. I am also aware of that I need experience in screenwriting and it comes with time.
I have written the music to the film. The title song is "Exiled." I wrote the lyric in 2009 while I was working as a project manager and I was enlightened by one sentence. I was comforting a refugee woman, 28 year old widow, a mother of three young children. She said this sentence, with enormous sadness in her eyes "I only came her for my children, my life is over. They deserve a life." At that moment, in her heart, her life was over, even though she was in security, in a foreign country, far away from conflict zone. In the title song I use contrabass, cello, viola, violin and classical piano. I have made the demo, just have to add voice and sing the lyric.
Wish you all the best in your work. I have registered The Escape and it and it is now being read by a professional screenwriter who will give me notes on it. I have a good feeling about this project and enjoy working on it!
Cheers - Isabella
Isabella,
I have a few notes on Escape, that though I'd like to send you I won't post in the forum, but send to you privately if you want them; I'd just need a personal email address.
If not, it's okay ... I wish you well in your ventures. Robin
