Hi all, Just wondering what precautions everyone takes with copyrighting their work, etc. For example, on a site like this should I be comfortable with putting my loglines on even though I haven't copyrighted them/my scripts? And if I'm discussing projects with others, how much should I say about un-copyrighted work? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I know nothing about this aspect of screenwriting!

You see the thing is that if you make something you have the copyrights of it, even if you don't pay to copyright it officially. If a big guy (rich or a company) stoles your script, even if you have it copyrighted you are the one that needs to pay all the expenses of a lawsuit against him/them anyway and they are big, have allot of money to spend... so It's complicated. My experience doe is that mostly no one cares about our ideas :P they just want a script, pay you lousy for it and make a movie of it, everything else is too much troublesome for them. Average Johns may find your script and copy it anyway, change a few words and makes it theirs. One thing I'm sure, if you don't show it no one will buy it ;)
Thanks Rogério... I just wanted to be sure that I wasn't screwing myself over in ways that I didn't even know! (As of yet, I know basically nothing about the business end of screenwriting).
