In many cases price is a factor in vfx software. The more expensive ones are often the better, more versatile choice. More often the needed, final results are the determining factor in choosing the right software - in addition to the skills and experience of the user. A person who is not very experienced in vfx software might not want to start with the high end software so the "better" software may be the easier software to learn.
