I'm 77. I lived a story which I wrote with the idea of self publishing a few copies for my GrandChildren. Along comes an English Professor who said it would make an good screen play. I don't know a damned thing about screen writing nor can I pay since I'm retired. Would I be wise just to follow my first idea since the story would make for a good conversation at my wake. Kindest regards, Miles Metcalfe

I think you'd be best served Miles with the book idea. Free don't sell, believe me:) Screenwriting is a tough business and few make it. I'll think about your idea. Best to you Pal. Stay N touch. Paul,

Paul, I'm not sure as to a direction. Here is an E/M from a successful writer, screen writer and English Professor friend. I mentioned your views as I trust you. I met the pair of screen writers on Stage 32. I don’t know them. Paul Hughes, a successful producer says screen writing is a tough...

I don’t know the publisher. You said the book needs some help. That bothers me if I were to publish now.
I’m torn with the book idea. Paul says do it. You have said there is no $ in books. I’m between a rock and a hard space. When this occurs, I don’t go either way. At 77, it seems a little late to try screen writing where success is so limited.
Is your series on Lewis or on one of your books?
If, push comes to shove, I’ll self publish a few copies and put it on my book shelf. It will be a good conversation piece at my Wake.

MIles -- If you have a friendship and trust this person then I suggest going ahead with it. I've been working on a miniseries for two plus years now with people over in the MS Delta and it's getting closer to compeletion, at least pitching the project anyway so I'll have some free time in a year or so.
One thing to think about is to teach yourself how to write a screenplay and write it yourself. It's easier than writing a novel and a person doesn;t have to be particularly gifted to write a decent one. Let me know. I used to teach it and can suggest some seriously good books (three in number) and give you some notes. Keep me posted. I'm around.
