The awful truth is that there are probably almost as many 'producers' out there as 'screenwriters'. I ended up in a quasi partnership with someone almost identical to the people you describe - "It's close, one more draft!" The only good thing to come out of the whole experience was a very clear understanding of how good scripts turn into dreadful films.
