After graduating with a first class honours degree in film and video my student film Manthrax, a re-edited spoof exaggerating the homoerotic behaviour in bodybuilding screened at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2004.
I returned to the UK in 2007 after almost three years travelling and filming in the Australian outback. Helmut’s House premiered in July 2009 at the BBC Shorts Film Festival and was compared by Radio 4 film critic Francine Stock to Werner Herzog’s early vignettes. Helmut’s House won the No Budget Jury Prize at the International Short Film Festival of Hamburg 2010 and has been screened at festivals internationally.
In 2010 I completed my debut feature documentary/road movie The Dust Never Settles, extending emerging themes, imagery and characters prevalent in Helmut’s House while developing a unique visual signature that transcends the conventions of traditional documentary. The Dust Never Settles features a soundtrack by The Dirty Three. Both Helmut’s House and The Dust Never Settles have recently secured international distribution.
In 2011 I collaborated with Andy Jenkinson to make spoof documentary Me, Myself & Me which premiered at the Hackney Film Festival. My latest observational feature about The Anchor & Hope pub in East London is currently in production.
