Hi Rex. Having just read your article (and for sure I'm by no means at the top of my game yet, or even in the 'big industry'), I just wanted to comment that I found it to be, well, horrendously egotistical.
I respect your work, having seen 'Sideways' many a time (although I haven't read the book - its on my list), however, all I took from the above article was your ego, and your judgement of everyone who was involved with the adaptation of your film. For me, it was actually nauseating to read.
Again, credit where credit's due. However, I've never heard Rowling, Barbra Broccoli, C.S. Lewis'/Tolkien's descendants, or others who are directly associated with big-screen adaptations of their/their relatives work, harp on in such a judgmental way about the people who worked to bring their material to the big screen.
I just think its a bit snobbish if I'm being honest, verging on pigheadedness.
Kind regards,
L. Clark
You're entitled to your opinon, of course, but you're clearly in the minority. I find it hard to believe that being so honest about what I went through is the definition of "egotistical." I hope you experience success some day; then we'll see how you feel.
Perhaps in the minority who speak out, yes. I actually had no problem with your honesty at all. It was your judgmental opinions of the actors and crew who were involved in your adaptation which I found to be nauseating. Essentially saying how Sideways 'made their careers or was the highlight of their careers/where are they now/without Sideways, where would they be/etc. To be honest Rex, I don't expect success. If I did, I'd probably drive myself insane. and if i did, I certainly wouldn't harp on about how my project made or broke someone else's career, not least on a public forum.
