moreI joined SAG/AFTRA in 1967 at a very young age. I was so young, my first jobs were crawl-on’s. Over the last forty years I have done quite a lot of character work in film, television, commercials and on stage.
I was a series regular on Norman Lear’s “Apple Pie” starring Dabney Coleman & Rue McClanahan. I dated both Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli for many years as Johnny 'Mamason' on “One Day at A Time”. I was a series regular in Gary Marshal’s “Joanie Loves Chachi” starring Scott Baio & Erin Moran. I guest starred in numerous episodes of “Happy Days”, I played Jughead in James Komack’s “The Archie Show” and starred as the teen killer in the cult classic feature “Massacre At Central High”. I was recently the recipient of the Best Actor Award at the New York Short Film Festival for my work in the film “Wither”.
Recently on stage I have played R.P. McMurphy in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest", the Devil (Mr. Aplegate) in “Damn Yankees”, Jake in “Jake’s Women”, Billis in “South Pacific” (which I also directed), Leo Herman in "A Thousand Clowns", Harry Roat Jr. in "Wait Until Dark" and Lt. Barney Greenwald in “The Cain Mutiny”. But playing Timmy Cleary in a production of “The Subject Was Roses” directed by George Schaefer in which I shared the stage with my mother and father was the thrill of my life.
Over 24 years as an acting teacher, I have taught for The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Estelle Harman's (head of talent and development at Universal Studios) Actor's Workshop and Tracy Roberts (head of the west coast Actor's Studio) Actor's Studio. I also ran the drama department for 15 years at the Valley Beth Shalom Day School, was the theatre director for 5 years at Abraham Joshua Heschel Middle School and was the artistic director at the Sinai Akiba Academy for 4 years. I also work for many talent agencies in and around LA, teach a number of private students and run Derrel Maury's (head of nothing really) Young Actors Workshop.
Over the last 20yrs I have been a theatre director in and around LA, mounting dozens of productions. I recently directed the LA premier of the new musical "Sophia" and later this year will be directing "Mama Cass" about Cass Elliot and the Mamas and the Papas. I recently won a Theatre Guild award for Best Actor in a Musical for my stage performance as Cole Porter in the Broadway show “Red Hot & Cole” and just finnished and eight week run starring in the new musical "The Beat Goes On" as Al Jolson, winning a best actor in a musical nomination from Broadway World. Currently I can be seen on stage in the Glendale Centre theatre's production of "Heaven Can Wait" as Mr. Jordan.
I have just finished starring in two pilots, "Cook Her Pants Off" & "I Met A Producer & Moved To LA", the feature film "Wasteland" and a Volkswagen commercial.
