About Birthday

At childhood Laura Grace Robles was introduced to performance and the stage with her mother at the high school her mother directed theater and taught drama allowing her to sit in at rehearsals for productions like Cinderella, A Game, Charlie' s Aunt. and Tartuffe. Laura had an early opportunity to captivate the audience in high school when she played Kate in Taming of The Shew and Mary for The Insanity of Mary Girard.

Birthday Gurl explains how her nickname derived from AREALA A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER THE WARRIOR NUN BEFORE a life changing video performance at a Ghostland Observatory Concert one night after celebrating her birthday.

Laura joined the musical collective iLL Prospekt in 2007-2008 as one of their artistic muses and eventually became their art director and performing video artist for live shows. Now Laura plays synth along side Dr. Grey her bandmate along side video installations during their musical performances. iLL Prospekt has worked in the recoding studio with the producer of the Strokes and shared the stage with bands like Melt Banana and Com Truise, ALSON SETTING UOP AT VIDEO INSTALLATION FOR MARCEL RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ KEYBOARDIST OF THE MARS VOLTA...
Birthday Gurl became encouraged to write a junk film manifesto shortly after her fake mockumentary manifesto was published online in 2014 which determined a junk film aesthetic for video art, pornography, commercials, instructional video (computer screen recordings (GO TO ACID JUNK FILM POST TO READ MORE), and home video which she had determined to be matter of film too new to be genre,

Laura has completed a body of junk films such as a series of short fake mockumenteries titled after FOXY. Other various junk films such as Jesus Practice, EL GATO, and Rap SCAR to name a few are themed on dysfunction compulsion and obsession. Like most of her films, art history hints that gender, and sexuality may eroticize her subject matter, but the underling cause of public nudity in her films is the urgency to celebrate freedom and human rights.

In 2005 the artist was invited to the private reception and lecture for The Gates. The Gates were a group of gates comprising a site-specific work of art by Bulgarian artist Christo Yavacheff and French artist Jeanne-Claude, known jointly as Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The artists installed 7,503 vinyl "gates" along 23 miles (37 km) of pathways in Central Park in New York City. From each gate hung a panel of deep saffron-colored nylon fabric. The exhibit ran from February 12, 2005 through February 27, 2005.
Two of Laura's paintings were collected by The University of Texas at San Antonio at the artist’s first solo exhibition, “The Additive and Subtractive Process”. While taking up painting Laura exhibited in numerous student exhibitions and at The Downtown Central Library joint with Vincent Valdez and Chuck Ramirez and other artists in Latino Expressions II,
Continuing her studies in video problems and solutions which processed body Performance, sculpture, photography and animation. This research was awarded 1st place in the Multi-Media category at the College of Liberal and Fine Arts 2006 Spring Research Conference at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

WHEN the video artist works on ACID FILMS the artist SOMETIMES (NOT ALWAYS) starts by installing a projector-via camCORDER recording the reflection of shapes thrown back by light as a result of a broken mirror installation .
Her process combines recorded video performance, Video feedback, image masking, color correction and layering other effects transforming its original state to a unique digitization by encapsulating dream like abstractions in color and in black and white.
For the video artist layering these images it is only preparation for more spontaneous applications of effects adjoining a counterpoise of distortion in a radical development of patterns that becomes entropy in motion. An electro reality of metric koas maintains a non-representational eurhythmy unified by an illuminated gestalt of colorant hues.
The artist’s playful stretch is found to purpose moving digital designs sometimes joined with sound to synthesize sound visualizations and music video.
