Emil B. Garuba is a screenwriter based in Abuja, Nigeria. He studied Political Science and Creative Writing at the University of Central Oklahoma earning a BA and MA respectively before pursuing a career as a professional screenwriter. His work spans feature films, short films, documentaries, and television shows including the 2016 AMVCA winning Feature Film Road to Yesterday, the 2015 AFRIFF Audience Choice Award winning documentary Silent Tears, and Tinsel, M-Net Africa's first Nigerian soap opera. Emil is also part of the founding creative team of the Nigeria Integrity Awards (HOMEVIDA) where he developed nine award winning short films between 2010 and 2014.
Emil is the Creative Director of Rated E, a content production company that develops original stories for the African Film and TV market. Rated E also offers training and consultation services for individuals and various high-profile media companies and clients including Nigeria’s Integrity Film Awards (HOMEVIDA), Ideas United, the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), and the Nigerian Women’s Trust Fund. As one of the foremost creative minds working within Nigeria’s film industry, Emil is a screenwriter with a powerful and unstoppable work ethic and passion to develop and produce entertaining, inspiring and important content for a diverse audience.
