About Gabby

Gabriela Egito (aka Gabby Egito) is a filmmaker and journalist based in Los Angeles. Three of the films she wrote, produced and directed won nine awards and six nominations in international festivals from Coast to Coast: Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Orlando, Atlantic City, Cleveland (Ohio) and Muskogee (Oklahoma).

Coming from Sao Paulo, the second largest city in Latin America, Gabby arrived in Tinseltown in 2010. The two-month visit for a quick filmmaking workshop turned permanent after she was granted a talent-based scholarship for a year of intensive hands-on conservatory at the New York Film Academy, located at Universal Studios backlot at the time.

Ten months later, she was collecting her first accolade for the dark comedy SINERGY. Next, the neo-noir thriller STUFFED won six awards and three nominations, including Best Foreign Short at the Las Vegas Film Festival.

Then, the psychological drama TAKEN FOR GRANTED won the Special Jury Remi Award in Houston and was nominated Best Foreign Project at Central Florida Film Festival. Gabby also received awards in New York and Orlando for her outstanding achievements as a member of the Brazilian community in America.

The U.S. is Gabby’s fifth home. Besides Brazil, she also lived in Portugal, France, and Hungary with her parents, both scholars, when she was young. She can watch films and series without subtitles in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.

Gabby holds two liberal arts bachelor degrees, in Psychology and Journalism, having worked for a decade in print newsrooms, PR agencies and social media monitoring in Brazil. She also holds a Masters in Cinema Studies, obtained at the University of Sao Paulo, alma mater of twelve Brazilian presidents and ranked #120 worldwide by the QS World University Rankings -- higher than USC (#132).
