About Margery

Bio on: “MAHORA”
Born as Margery ( indiginous name) “MAHORA” she hails all the way from Downunder... the land of "The Hobbitt" (New Zealand) and has spent most of her life entertaining on the International circuit. She started professionally at age 15 and by 17 was touring overseas in a “Kapa Haka Group” (a cultural dance troupe) which toured Australian in 1961.
Mahora and her then (former husband) bore a Daughter and a Son, life was difficult then until her Mom moved in to takeover her role with competence as only a Grandparent knows how.
In 1967 she recalls the most rewarding experience of performing for the troops (both New Zealand/Australian and Americans) in Vietnam and recently was awarded with pride her Vietnam medal from New Zealands Gov General and also a medal from Ram Parocua ( Commander of Vietnam Vets) in Nevada.
Touring kept her and the Maori Volcanics on the road for no less than 40 years when they toured at performed the Playboy Clubs Circuit. In 1972 the original group disbanded as did her marriage and present husband Billy joined the Maori Volcanics and has been so since. The PITA’S still managed to bear a set of twin girls who are now grownup and in their mid 40s.
Almost every country in Europe, Asia, Middle East, Canada, USA, Carribean fell under the charm of the Maori Volcanics and 57 countries later in the 1980s Mahora and Billy settled in Sydney / Australia where they owned and operated 2 x 300 seater Theatre Restaurants and later moved to Queensland where they lived for 13 years before moving to the USA.
They returned to live and work in Las Vegas in 2010 and became well known locally for their work with the homeless, Vets from Foreign Wars etc etc…alongside of well known Las Vegan ‘Patricia Martinelli Price” besides becoming involved with local organizations and associating with “old” friends and Musicians. Both Peters were Directors of a local Non Profitable Org. RAPACD. It was 1990s when Mahora was asked to write her memoirs. It was in Print and on the shelves within a very short time and is still being sold by shops nationally simply entitled: MAHORA “SHOWBANDS: It has been optioned by a local Producer and will made into a feature Film.
Mahora has written several feature Films 2 (under option) WARRIOR WOMAN & SOIL OF MY SOUL..by 2 New Zealand (Films) Companies. The 3rd (an Australian Comedy) is still looking for a Production Company.
The pull of home had begun to take its toll and the Peters returned to Aotearoa 2016 where they have now settled back into working on a new Music album and Mahoras Film projects. Fortunately the "many" years of entertaining and making music shows has not taken its toll on her vocal capacity with her repoitre ranging from the 60s 70s 80s country, latino, pacific Island, old time, swing, rock music to present day Pop, she performs all styles to suit their audiences of any age. Her talents onstage are matched offstage as Manager/ Agent/ Publicist and Business Manager and as Musician, Bass Guitar, and Percussion. As a New Zealand “Icon” to her peers and her Maori people both Billy and Mahora still hold New Zealands highest respect. Time has not dulled or nullified their god given talents to bring to their public a listening experience of harmonic sounds and musical talents.
Website: Google: www.maorivolcanics.net / You tube/ Google. Mahora has written 2 Maori Songs “HUI MAI TATOU & IRIRANGI which have been funded and sponsored by Te Mangai Paho. (New Zealand Maori Television & Radio) The Peters will be touring the country promoting them.
