Mahyar was born into an artistic family and he was exposed to classical music from an early age. His parents, who are both creatively minded, played an important role in encouraging the pursuit of his musical career.
He focused his attention on classical music at university, studying composition, then specialised in film composition during his post-graduate studies. Mahyar has always had an interest in cinema, and aims to create distinctive, memorable themes to improve the viewer’s emotive experience of a film, so that the cinematic experience stays with the audience long after they leave the theatre.
Mahyar has worked with notable directors, producers and musicians, including Philip Glass, Tristan Gurney and Catriona MacInnes. In 2011, he was selected to create a score inspired by Glass’s “Qatsi” trilogy as part of the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Mahyar was recently chosen to represent Scotland in a Commonwealth Games concert series, alongside featured musicians from Scotland, Kenya and India. This showcased Mahyar’s respect for and understanding of traditional Celtic music, when his piece “Folk Orchestral” was performed in various locations across the UK.
