Name: Petra Bučková
Lives in: Praha, Czech Republic
Unique traits: Like the whole generation born at the verge of east European communist dictatorships, Petra, Czechoslovakian child with Hungarian and German roots, grew up in a time of change with many doors just opened, many new horizons waiting to be discovered. Born into a world with no boundaries, Petra is used to test the boundaries of her own, both professionally and personally. From early childhood she has been studying languages, in her professional career she wouldn’t leave any role undisclosed, any skill barren - from classic drama to comedy, from radio to big stages, from city streets to hospice rooms. She graduated with Masters Degree (MA) at Academy of Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU) and during the consequent years she took different engagements across the country, to finally anchor back in city’s leading playhouses (National Theatre, Centre for Experimental Theatre). Recently, Petra was offered a permanent engagement from late Vaclav Havel’s flagship playhouse in Prague (Divadlo na Zábradlí). She performed lead roles spanning from Shakespeare’s Juliette and Lula in Wild at Heart to Lady Macbeth, Chekhov’s Ranevskaya and a lead in Sarah Kane’s 4.48 Psychosis. Particularly her latest plays were widely acclaimed and reprised at major events such as Salzburger Festspiele. Na Zábradlí’s Golden Sixties has been awarded Best Play in 2013 National Awards. During her engagements, she was casted by Garry Edwards from Red Noses International as a professional medical clown, taking part in events across Europe and, in cooperation with Médecins Sans Frontières, even as far as Cameroon, Africa. Using the widely silent language of feelings and emotions adds even more to Petra’s acting skills and lets her discover her ultimate gift and companion – humour. In The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho writes: “And, when you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Back in 1980’s Czechoslovakia, this young girl named Petra had a dream of living different lives in different ages, dream of wearing different costumes and speaking foreign accents. A dream to make her once reject any further engagement offers and to set to a new course, fully focusing on motion picture. Petra starts attending film acting and auditioning classes, attends castings, takes part in different on-screen projects and first roles are soon to follow. From minor supporting roles in drama series Kriminálka Anděl to acting partnerships with some of the top Czech and International actors, such as Ivan Trojan in series Vraždy v kruhu, or Brandon Fraser, Dawn Olivieri, Marcia Cross and Bolek Polivka in Behind The Curtain Of The Night. Petra is fluent in Czech, English and French.
