About Rafael

After 20 years selling shit for gold in the advertising industry, I left my own agency behind in 2016 and embraced an old passion: screenwriting. Since that day, I have one feature currently in post-production ("A Garden of Sunflowers", with Brazilian stars Fernanda Vasconcellos and Rodrigo Lombardi), one in pre-production ("The Hell Within Us"), and one more confirmed ("Tight Spot"). I am the head writer of the Brazilian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", for Sony and TV Globo.

I'm on a 5-movie writing and co-production deal with a major Brazilian distributor. I also have six series optioned by big prodcos, and I'll soon debut as a director in a horror movie I wrote, called "The House Around The Corner". I have three more features that were optioned or I was hired to write. I hope they hit the screens in a near future - in the movie business, it can be 5 years to never. :) I also have won a few screenwriting contests, but these are pure vanity and I used them to get some writing gigs - it's incredible how producers actually fall for this shit.

Despite the fact that I am relatively established in the Brazilian market, I am on a move to get into the American market. It's the most professional and result-driven film industry in the world. I know I'll have to start all over again, and I'm not that young anymore, but fuck it. I'll do it. :)

In my spare time, I use to fall from the skies in my paraglider (I'm such a lousy pilot I can't figure how I'm still alive) or to sail around with my boat (and sailing is the one thing I suck at more than flying). But what I really love is to play guitar for my kids and tell them bedtime stories I create from the heart or adapt from movies I love.
