About Sumarmo

I was born in a rural town Wonogiri, Central Java, Indonesia and raised in sub-urban areas of Greater Jakarta. I studied Cinema at Jakarta Arts Institute, majoring Television for five semesters. My interests for documentary required me to switch department into the Film Department at the same institute. During the study my friends and I who shared similar passions often involved in the productions of short films as well music videos. Most of the videos I made were aired on MTV Indonesia, which was a barometer to popular culture those days. After graduation I was later much involved in the world of narrative and documentary films, professionally. Moreover when I was working in TV Stations I could apply my creativity, knowledge and even passions for making documentaries and TV films that had been a good way to build up my character. In the needs to further explore and develop films, I decided to leave television and went directly to the Indonesian film business.
