a'Ali DeSousa is the son of many lands - his paternal family immigrated from the Cape Verdean Islands and his maternal family from St. Kitts in the Caribbean. Each of his grandparents are of different cultures and ethnicity. Those close to a'Ali and long time friends say perhaps that contributes greatly to his empathetic view of humanity. a'Ali grew up on the South Shores of Massachusetts. He describes them as formative years of extreme polarities. The tranquil and picturesque rural and suburban New England environs contrasted against blatant bigotry and oppression of the 20th century. He chronicles the experience in his new release “Atlantic Crossing.” An introspective and eclectic disposition and the circumstances of the times forged a very empathetic and introverted nature that he expresses best through creative arts. These passions are clear in a'Ali’s writing, filmmaking and art.

This year’s release of two books, “Book of Thoughts” and “Atlantic Crossing” bring great insight into aspects of this up and coming filmmaker. After establishing himself as a leading man in several independent feature and short films he made the decision to bring “Broken Heroes” the first of his feature length passion projects to the silver screen.
