Welcome to the weekend, everyone.
In this edition of the Weekend Blog, awards season is in full swing and, much to my happiness, independent films are dominating, lending credence to the wave of recent coverage speaking to an indie renaissance. I have all the latest coverage of the nominees and a couple of more Hollywood Reporter roundtables, this time with the actors and the cinematographers seeking Oscar gold. All of this content can be found under ENTERTAINMENT NEWS.
Also in that section I have all the latest on the Sony hacking case which gets equally more interesting and bizarre by the day, the controversy surrounding the Sundance Film Festival premieres, Netflix’s plans to expand their original programming, a very cool look at the making of Whiplash, the latest SAG-AFTRA news and much, much more.
Plus, under TIPS, I have some filmmaking mistakes to avoid, micro-budget filmmaking ideas to take to heart, distribution deal no-no’s and tricks of the trade for those looking to enter the world of costume design.
Under VIDEOS you’ll find a remarkable retrospective of all the top trailers of 2014, Ah-nold is back with the new Terminator film and Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes The Walk.
Let’s see…What else…Oh, yeah. Dozens of Stage 32 Lounge discussions for you to peruse and join in on, the latest and greatest Stage 32 Success Stories, all the Stage 32 Meetups happening around the globe and last, but certainly not least, a look at all the events, happenings and educational opportunities around the site under Stage 32 News.
I hope you enjoy all the content and, as always, I welcome thoughts, debates, and sentimental feelings in the Comments section below.
Have an awesome weekend!

In our continued mission to bring you the best possible experience on Stage 32, we introduced a new dynamic way to invite people to the community. As creatives, we all need support. It’s paramount. Thus, the tradition of crowdsourcing the Stage 32 community continues. To this day, we ask each new member to invite at least 5 fellow creatives to the community. Some have gone way above and beyond and invited literally thousands of their peers. On behalf of the entire community, we thank you. If you haven’t had the opportunity yet to send your invites, we’ve made it easier than ever to do so with our new Invite Your Fellow Creative Friends boxes which can be found on your Home, Profile and Private Messages pages. Monday 12/15 Stage 32 Next Level Webinars presents Actors: 9 Secrets To Getting Your Best Performance hosted by 25 year veteran actor Ron Marasco, Ph.D (40 Year Old Virgin, West Wing, Lost, Entourage). In this Stage 32 Next Level Webinar, Ron’s approach is not so much a “method” as it is “tool-kit” of tricks that provide fast-fixes to an actor’s work, doable techniques that quickly increase an actor’s on-stage/on-screen command, and gems meant to spark an actor’s inspiration. This webinar will be what Ron calls “shop-talk,” just one actor talking to other actors about the “secrets” he’s learned that are the base-work of every good performance. “This is the stuff,” Ron says, “they don’t tell you in acting classes.” To see a video from Ron, read more about the webinar and to sign up, click here: Actors: 9 Secrets To Getting Your Best Performance
