RB's Stage 32 News, Notes, Discussions, and Other Fun Stuff (January 31st, 2014)

Happy Super Bowl Weekend.

Another busy week here on 32. We're gearing up for a few big announcements (more teasing under Stage 32 News) as well as preparing some other goodies for the community.

You guys certainly got after it this week as well. The Lounge was buzzing (near record posts) and the network connections were off the charts.

As for the external news this week, yet another interesting article on sexism in Hollywood. This one having to do with casting notices. The Tarantino Hateful Eight controversy continues with the pundits weighing in on whether his lawsuit against Gawker will carry water. A really interesting look at Oscar campaigning – not only the time expenditure, but the costs involved. And, a really cool roundtable out of Sundance regarding the current market and what's selling.

Other news items:

  • Meet the worst filmmakers in Hollywood
  • Slate make a case for American Hustle as the flashiest, emptiest Best Picture candidate of the year
  • The Zach Braff Kickstarter controversy gains legs (again)
  • And 5 lessons learned from an uninspiring Sundance

Plus, I have a bunch of cool trailers and Super Bowl ads in the Videos section, some crowdfunding, cinematography and screenwriting tips, and the most interesting and popular Lounge discussions from the last week.

And, finally, all the Stage 32 Meetups being formed across the globe.

As always, I welcome all feedback, thoughts, opinions, and rants in the Comments section below.

Enjoy the material…And for those watching, enjoy the game!

Over 600 people spanning more than 40 countries took part in our New Years Resolution Next Level Webinar Series. Some of our hosts went nearly 2 hours presenting and asking member questions. All of the webinars from this series, as well as those broadcast previously, are now available on-demand here.

Pitchfest X – The Big Dogs – begins tomorrow. Stage 32 screenwriters and filmmakers will be pitching to the likes of Disney, Fox TV, Paramount Insurge, UTA, WME, and many more. We've had 7 success stories from previous pitchfests over the last week alone. 7! We'll be documenting them on our pitchfest page shortly. In the meantime, only a select few slots remain for this weekend. You can see sellouts and last calls here:

Finally, we have some big things in store for the community next week. That's all I'm giving you. Stay tuned!
