RB's Stage 32 News, Notes, Discussions and Other Fun Stuff (September 19th, 2014)

Posted by Richard "RB" Botto
Welcome to the weekend everyone.  Cheers.

In this edition of the Weekend Blog Imax's CEO says audiences are tiring of Hollywood tentpoles.  David Fincher thinks things are even worse, saying studios are treating audiences like cattle.  Supporting these claims, Hollywood box office continues to be in free fall, yet based on the word coming out of the major film festivals, independent films are back on the rise.

Also under Entertainment News, how you can tell good acting from bad acting,  American Psycho is not going to make it to Broadway, why Goldfinger remains the definitive James Bond movie, Apple's CEO says TV is stuck in the 70's, HBO is seriously considering a stand-alone HBO-Go, Netflix launches in France and much much more.

Plus, I have filmmaking, acting and screenwriting tips along with the top trailers of the week and a very cool video showing what Star Wars would look like without John Williams' score.

Also, we now have over 50,000 discussions in the Stage 32 Lounge!  I've highlighted dozens of the top threads from the last week along with the most recent Success Stories and Stage 32 Meetups.

Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!

We’ve been looking back at the last 3 years of Stage 32 on the blog.  Take a glance with us here:

Over on the Stage 32 Happy Writers, with the current rise in independent film, we thought it would be a great idea to have Jake Detharidge, Head of Development at 3311 Productions, come in to teach How to Write Dramedies That the Industry Will Embrace.   This is a 4 week class exclusive to Stage 32.  Space is limited.  To learn more and to register, please click here:  How to Write Dramedies That the Industry Will Embrace

One of the most successful films of the year has been Guardians of the Galaxy.  We've brought in Ross Putman, Producer and Founder of PSH Creative, to teach our exclusive Next Level Webinar, Deconstructing Guardians of the Galaxy - From Concept to Script to Screen to Beyond.  Ross will be looking at ALL aspects of the film, including why the script is so respected in the industry, how the film was cast, the marketing choices that were made and much, much more.  To see a video from Ross and to register, click here:  Deconstructing Guardians of the Galaxy - From Concept to Script to Screen to Beyond

We have a ton of cool pitch sessions lined up for the weekend.  You can see the full slate here:  Stage 32 Pitch Sessions
