Coffee & Content: How To Write Subtext

Happy Sunday, Creative Army!

First, congratulations to all of you who have already participated in our monthly Introduce Yourself Weekend! Thousands of connections have been made between entertainment creatives and professionals from around the globe. Whether you are a long-time member or brand new to Stage 32, take a moment to pop over to the Introduce Yourself Lounge and say hello before the end of the weekend.

First up this week, we have a video from StudioBinder on writing subtext. I see a lot of writers debating nuance vs. exposition in the lounges, how you can reveal information without being blunt, how subtle or coy you can be while still moving the story or revealing character... These are all great questions, and this video does a great job of giving and overview of the topic. For more in-depth discussions, you should definitely check out this class with industry legend Brian Herskowitz on creating great characters and dialogue and this one from AZ Yeaman on creating great subtext in your scripts.

Next up, we have a great video for animation lovers on SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE and its effect on the animation industry and today's animation style, the ripple effects of which we'll be seeing through the next several years. This film opened many people's eyes to the kinds of stories that can be told, not just in animation, but also in the midst of superhero saturation.

As always, here at Stage 32, we love to share stories and knowledge with our fellow film fans. Know someone who would love this content? Share it with them! Tag them below! You can keep up with all of our content by subscribing to the Stage 32 YouTube. Wishing you a very happy, healthy, & creative Sunday.

Cheers,

RB
