I’m a retired accountant. I started writing a novel 35 years ago but couldn't get an agent to read it. So, I thought if I wrote the script it would get me representation for the novel. I bought the Syd Field book on screenwriting and jumped in. I thought the script was terrific and sent it to producers (this was when they accepted unsolicited material). One producer’s assistant replied that it read more like a made-for-tv movie and was not interested.

So, I rewrote draft after draft. I came up with other ideas for scripts. In time, I had eight scripts written. Eventually, I found a script coverage service that helped refine my writing. Then I discovered Stage 32, whose script coverages not only improved my writing but has other services to help break into the business. Thanks to Preston Fassel’s coverage, I eventually had six scripts in the Lookbook.

I purchased a 30-minute talk with Sofia Rovaletti with MoJo Global Arts and submitted Elizabeth Burgin: Revolutionary War Hero. She called and we talked about me and the script. She said she loved it and suggested a couple of revisions. I agreed with them and rewrote the script and resubmitted it. She called me back and offered to option it. I negotiated one of the terms; they agreed, and we recently signed the option agreement.

A 35-year overnight success story. I recommend Stage 32 if writers want to improve their scripts and get the industry to notice them.
