Derly Perez is a writer & producer born and raised in Puerto Rico but currently based in New York. Frustrated with the lack of film offerings and opportunities in her hometown.
Perez teamed up with the Sundance Institute and the Film Society of Puerto Rico to bring the Sundance Film Forward to the country; the first time in the region. This created a unique interest in fostering film on the island. Derly also founded Cinematheque, a college-based organization, that coordinates monthly screenings and alternative film experiences such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Her work as a producer is also characteristically ambitious since establishing herself in New York. She has produced more than ten short film projects and documentaries. Some include Crazy Bitch, A Modest Proposal, The Daydreamer, Laila, Beasts. Her latest film "Peach Fuzz" is now making the festival rounds, and she is currently developing her first length film.
Alongside her producing activities, Perez is currently pursuing an MFA in Film at Columbia University’s Graduate School of the Arts.
