Hi, I'm Dina!
An actor, voice actor, filmmaker, model, improvisor, and comedian...whew! I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida where my love for acting and performing started at a young age. Being a daughter to a mother born in Bethlehem and a father from Nazareth; I am 100% Middle Eastern, proudly speak fluent Arabic, and can belly dance. I'm your real life Princess Jasmine with an edge. I used to put on variety shows and plays for my parents with my little brother, Jack. In my senior year of high school, I was part of a theatre production class where I had the opportunity to work on all aspects of putting on a play. I ended up winning the Best Actress award (the prestigious Golden Mitten award which is basically a Tony) in my school for my portrayal of Renfield, the lunatic asylum inmate (usually played by a man), in "Dracula". I still treasure this moment as being one of the most memorable in my life. I remember completely transforming myself so much so that the audience members did not even know it was me. That empowering feeling of breathing life into a character and making her my own ignited a fire in me that I had never known before.
I am passionate about traveling and have had the opportunity to visit many amazing places including some of the wonders of the world such as Petra, the Great Pyramid of Giza, and the Taj Mahal. I'm petite at 5'2'' and people love saying things to me like: "You're so little!" "You're like a mini person!" "That ____ is bigger than you!" "Where do you put all that food!" I know what you're wondering and the answer is: Yes, I can fit into clothing from the children and junior's sections.
The characters I play tend to be described as: sexy, intelligent, professional, neurotic, strong/strong-willed, alluring, exotic, edgy, trendy/stylish, and cool. In sitcoms, I'm the neurotic one, the materialistic one, and the bitch. My mission is to bring diversity without stereotype to the screen and stage and to tell important stories that inspire, empower, and include. I strive to portray and write interesting and multifaceted female characters. I absolutely love comedy and appreciate how it has gotten me through the toughest times in my life. It's my therapy.
My recent roles include recurring as alluring assassin Nadja Shah in Season 2 of "The Family Business" now streaming on BET Plus and a troubled woman struggling during the holidays in the feature film, "The Christmas Ride", currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video for which I won Best Supporting Actress at the 2020 Tampa Bay Underground Film Festival.
I think this quote from filmmaker Stephen Stull sums me up perfectly as an actor: "Dina Najjar is an unstoppable force. She has a titanic screen presence that belies her diminutive physical form. The source of her power — and the reason I would be delighted to work with her again on any project — is her unflinching commitment to the role. No matter the scope of the part, Dina will inhabit it completely and breathe a sincerity into the performance that is incredible to behold. She has an auspicious career ahead of her, and I feel honored to have been able to work with her."
In 2015, in an effort to start creating opportunities for myself and my fellow actors, I started making my own films. Seeing your story come to life is a magical experience. My through line is belonging, and I always leave my viewers with a sense of hope. I truly believe it's important to create what you want to be a part of.
And let's create together!
