Breaking into the festival circuit is an exciting opportunity to position your film for meaningful visibility and momentum. When you understand how festivals and markets truly work, you gain leverage, attract the right industry attention, and open real pathways to distribution. A smart, strategic festival plan allows you to protect your premiere status, maximize your budget, and give your project the strongest possible launch. You will discover how festivals and markets serve different purposes, how to identify the best fit for your film, how to plan submissions with clarity and confidence, and how to use platforms like FilmFreeway strategically to elevate your overall release strategy!
Many filmmakers are passionate about their projects and simply need a stronger strategic framework to maximize success. You may be unsure about the differences between festivals and markets, how premiere requirements work, or how to allocate your submission budget effectively. Some filmmakers move quickly toward distribution without fully leveraging the momentum, credibility, and press opportunities that a thoughtful festival strategy can create. These challenges are not about talent. They are about gaining the knowledge, timing, and planning tools that allow your film to reach its highest potential!
Your Stage 32 educator, Michelle Alexandria, brings more than two decades of hands-on experience navigating the global festival and market landscape as both a producer and distributor. She has attended the Cannes Film Festival for over 20 years and has worked extensively within the Marché du Film, while also participating in major international and U.S. festivals including Berlinale, Sundance, SXSW, and many others. As President of Light Year Pictures, a Producers Guild council member, advisory board participant, and longtime festival judge, she understands how films are evaluated, programmed, sold, and positioned and she uses that real-world insight to guide filmmakers toward smarter decisions.
You will walk away from this interactive class with the clarity and confidence to approach festivals with a smart, strategic plan that supports both your film’s success and your long term career growth. You will learn how festivals and markets serve different purposes, how to determine where your film truly belongs, how to budget and plan submissions effectively, and how to use platforms like FilmFreeway strategically to position your project for maximum impact!
This interactive Stage 32 class is held on Zoom and goes substantially more in depth than a Stage 32 webinar. Best of all?
