Singer, songwriter, actor, dancer Jina Anika found her passion in music before she could find words to speak. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, she spent her childhood immersed in musical theatre, with roles in A Chorus Line and Pirates of Penzance. She commenced piano at age five, and at seven, joined the Amadeus Children’s Choir. She later joined the Bach Choir, Union Gospel Choir, and the UBC Women’s Choir.
Since Jina began dabbling in film work, she has been recognized as a charismatic, fearless and versatile performer. Appearances include singing in A Twist Of Faith (2012), playing the role of “Miriam” in Hipster Horror House (2015), and playing piano in Unbreak My Heart (2016).
As the frontwoman of Modern Day Poets (MDP), a rock band formed in 2015, Jina is hailed for her raw lyricism and captivating stage presence. She has produced three music videos for the band, “This City,” “Going” (lyric video) and “Going” (official video). MDP music is positive, catchy and intended to uplift anyone listening. JAZZ(ish), on the other hand, is a darker, sultrier, more improvisational project. With John Dean accompanying on piano, Jina sings original compositions she began writing at the age of twelve.
