All projects are currently speculative until such time as theatres re-open and producers begin taking options on new musicals. Each has a distinctive subject--not just boy-meets-girl--geographical location, historical setting and requires a specific musical interpretation which conveys these elements as well as plot, character and mood. Experience composing for real, live human voices--NOT MIDI--is preferable; familiarity with Broadway Musicals of the Golden Age (1943-1973) is desirable, as well as with Gilbert & Sullivan, Offenbach, Bollywood, etc. Sondheim imitators need not apply. Much as I admire his canon, he is sui generis (ONE OF A KIND).
Samples of my work as a lyricist can be found on YouTube, posted by the composer with whom I collaborated a couple of years ago as THE LONG, HOT SUMMER MUSICAL PROJECT. I was granted conditional stage adaptation rights to the screenplay of the 1958 film by the estate of William Faulkner, pending a Hollywood big-screen remake.
Additional samples are available on my personal page at NumberOneMusic, with a brief description of the project and details regarding the source material, as ZARZUELA DE OVEJUNADOR (THE SHEEPHERDER'S OPERA) a musical tale of romance, rape, revenge and revolution. For a list of COPYRIGHTED projects with capsule descriptions, my directing resume', complete c.v. media reviews and letters of recommendation, please send mp3s of your ORIGINAL compositions for REAL, LIVE human voices or links to your website, your resume'/c.v., etc. to: carver.robertd@gmail.com
