About the job

PLEASE NOTE: Some people who applied for this project didn't reply to my messages and emails. Plese be professional and avoid to apply randomly for all the job postings on Stage 32 without bothering to write why you think you might be the right person for that position.

In 2014, after posting my indie short movie project on Stage 32, I managed to find the actors who made my dream of shooting my script in Manhattan a reality. “New York, a venture” was the fulfilment of an almost utopic goal as it completed my Trilogy of “Hidden Mind Cities” including the movie “Nepente” directed in Rome in 2009 and “EDOnism” filmed in Tokyo the year after. Eventually it was screened at the first edition of the Dobb’s Ferry Movies4movies film festival in February 2017 getting enthusiastic reviews from the jury and the audience.

In the meanwhile, I released my seventh novel “Balia Bufera - Nurse Blizzard”, a peculiar “coming-of-age” story blending fantasy, folklore and teen-drama that provided the narrative premise of an ambitious feature movie to be shot on a plateau among the mountains of Middle Italy. The story has an enormous visual and dramatic vibe granted by the natural landscape and ancient towns, as well as by the metaphorical and literal employment of a railway and the copious snow that are landmarks of the place.

Concept, mood, places and narrative structure have been carefully created and built upon my own childhood memories and pictorial motifs developed in my paintings and novels. There are even some visual references to the fictitious world of Rien Poortvliet, the dutch artist who created the popular series of "Gnomes" and to the eerie atmosphere of the tale "The white people" by Arthur Machen.

Del Toro's "The Pan's labyrinth" is one of the stylistic inspiration for my novel and script, as well as Robert Egger's "The Witch" and "Spring", a peculiar horror-fantasy movie directed in middle Italy in 2014 by Justin Benson and Aron Moorhead (and deeply appreciated by Del Toro).

Even though it has been conceived as a low-budget feature, it isn’t a project I could produce on my own like my previous independent works. Therefore, as soon as I completed the script the last summer I started submitting the book, a mood board, some concept art and the movie outline to a dozen of major studio and indie producers based in Italy and abroad in order to lay the foundation of a (hopefully) international co-production. I was quite confident that, along with my director reel and resume, the material was going to be treated at least as worthy of consideration.

After a couple of weeks only an important Italian studio replied, simply stating that it wasn’t interested in speculative scripts. As more months passed without any feedbacks, I realized that I needed to radically change my method of pitching the script if I wanted to find some real chances. That’s why I thought that Stage 32 can be again a precious support in keeping this project alive and widen the network outside the “Italian” boundaries, even in the hypothesis to shoot the feature in a different location in Europe or America.

At this stage I’m specifically looking for producers, financiers, agents, managers and investors able to arrange financing for the feature and coordinate the several aspects of film production.
