About the job

Improvisations on the Ledge (IOTL) is a new Facebook Live series by composer-pianist-author Peter Saltzman. It combines live streaming music with prerecorded stories to create an exciting and enriching new form of entertainment.

The concept of IOTL is simple, the possibilities endless. Start with a story—personal, autobiographical, topical, timely. Tell the stories dramatically in short thematically evolving episodes with high production values. Poignant, humorous, absurd little one-act vignettes. Then add live music. Stream to the web. Repeat the same episode multiple times because the music, with plenty of improvised elements, is always changing. Perform in venues with as a multimedia show—live music with video. Episodes range in length from 10 minutes to and hour and can be mixed and matched in live performance.

IOTL is a flexible and modular form of music/dramatic entertainment that can be monetized on multiple levels:

  • Free live streaming shows with ads;
  • Facebook links offering free content (ebooks, etc.) in exchange for user email;
  • Opt-in emails can be used to generate multiple sales funnels, e.g., subscription to exclusive content, discounts on tickets and merchandise.

IOTL will, by default, be broadcast to Facebook Live because of that platforms’ advanced targeting marketing capabilities. But both live and edited performances can also be streamed to YouTube and other platforms. Initial episodes will be broadcast from Peter Saltzman’s studio in the Chicago area, but we are using a highly portable system that allows for broadcast from just about any location with a strong WiFi signal.

We are looking for creative partners: all positions may include small remuneration and/or points on sales.

Sample Episodes

Almost Free: The premiere episode is a whimsical exploration of free improvisation in music and how it, like getting lost in the woods, is a means to accidental discovery. The three short scenes are surrounded by live improvised solo piano music.

Blues, Preludes & Feuds: An adaptation of Peter Saltzman’s app of the same title. The app combines creative memoir (including fictional elements) with Saltzman solo piano music to tell the story of growing up in the politically charged Chicago during the 1960s.
