I'm just down the road in Sheffield and there is plenty going on! Bradford has a good amdram scene, particularly out of the Playhouse. Students in the area are always looking for actors.
Online, on top of Stage32, you have StarNow and Mandy, which have a variety of castings on (both paid and unpaid).

Depending on the experience you currently have you could look into local agents who deal in "kids" casting. I say kids as being over 16, but with a playing age in the late teens is very beneficial (even more so if you are over 18) as the licensing issue is mitigated and, if you have an agent, they can get you on Spotlight.

Drop me a message if you want any more info!

No matter where you come from there are probably acting classes, improv groups, open mics, community theatres and independent filmmakers as well as student filmmakers going to the local film school. And of course you can make your own projects even if only on your iPhone. And also bigger films may be being made that you can work on as a background/extra, so check your states film commission online. Tons of different ways to give this acting thing a try. I started in a small town in Indiana and was able to build a resume before bouncing to the bigger acting hubs. Go at your own rate, of course, but just know you have tons of options to give yourself experience as a performer.
