Jessica gave some good suggestions. I'll add one more. You mention living in a small town. As someone who has lived in small towns and now lives in LA, I'd say 'buckle your psychological seat belt'. :) I personally find many things to intensely dislike about LA, including the high cost of living, traffic, certain kinds of people who seem to be endemic here, particularly in the film biz, etc. , etc. I'd suggest spending a little time thinking about that now. But I also say, to anyone considering a career in the film biz, while you can do it from somewhere else, in my view, this is still the place to have the best chance.
