Is freelancing a waste of time

May I know from experts and anyone if writing as a ghostwriter freelancer is a waste of time and perhaps talent/skill. I've been a ghostwriter for more than four years and I bet you, some of the authors on amazon and kdp, whom I wrote for have made some considerable fame and money too. We'll, is it a waste of time?

Grant Fieldgrove

Yes it is

D Marcus

I have done quite a bit of professional, uncredited, writing. Not for novels but for plays. I have learned something each time. My skill level has grown, my contacts have expanded. So (for me) is has not been a waste of time.

Conrad Ekeke

Well, I've done that for a good number of years and I'm inclined to think it's a waste but then, it's not utterly an absolute waste as one perfects his/er skills in the practice.

David Taylor

Depends on your agenda, needs, and future targets. If the ghost writing earns a crust, that is a factor. I would assume it is possible to do both? I think a writer who only ghost writes is an unusual choice

Conrad Ekeke

That's true David, what of the case where you feel cheated or exploited?

Jody Ellis

Were you paid for your ghost wriitng services and was there some kind of contract? If they abided by the agreement you made, it might be annoying that they made a lot of $ off your endeavors but it is what it is. I don't think any effort, as long as you learn from it, is a "waste".

Conrad Ekeke

Well, yes I got paid... Good point there too Jody

D Marcus

Since you feel it's a waste of time, Conrad, then isn't it time you stopped ghostwriting? If you feel you are being cheated and exploited then perhaps you should stop ghostwriting.

Conrad Ekeke

Marcus, you have a point. Now the big deal is getting integrated with all that's complex in the film industry. One has to start with creating relationships then start up on proving etc. Not an easy path either but yeah, I'm decided already. Better or worse... :)

D Marcus

I agree; not an easy path. Nothing worth pursuing is easy. I imagine ghostwriting wasn't an easy path yet you have made a living at it for four years.

Conrad Ekeke

Yes Marcus. Four tough years precisely.
