Missing Pieces - Worldwide monologues from people at home performed by actors

How are you handeling being at home?

Me: Being at home, home teaching, being a dad, taking care of the house. Just going outside for shopping or, gladly still possible in the Netherlands, a small walk or bike ride.

Enjoying being closer to the kids than I am used to, enjoying the peace it brings in this ratrace we call life. But I do miss having some time for myself. I miss making films or theater. I miss telling stories and listening to stories and ideas of others. And I miss working with other creatives.

But, in the spare moments I do have for myself I was also thinking of the possibilities.

I am not in this alone. As a matter of fact: We are all in this together. All over the world. This disease knows no borders, no politics or religion. These times are unique. What if we use this time to share our personal stories? Share your thoughts and feelings? What if we find personal stories from everywhere and find writers and actors from everywhere to film these stories?

Together with writer Michiel Richards, I created the concept for sharing the ‘at home monologues’. I like to introduce to you ‘Missing Pieces’.

New monologues are still being created, so new words from around the world will be uploaded every week.

Hey, Hidde Simons! What a cool idea! I was just talking to a friend who is having trouble keeping track of the days since she is staying with family who are high-risk. Is there a due date for submissions? I find a deadline helps to remember the days LOL!

Hidde Simons

Hi Karen, thank you for your responce and question. Since it is happening now, the true deadline in 'as long as it is happening' . But I do also believe the feeling people could have of 'being stuck at home' doesn't stop after the pandemic, there the deadline also moves, and hopefully we stay able to create short monologues for our MISSING PIECES channel. But. I would like to see monologues coming in, and know the feeling of having a deadline helps, here is the one for you: DEADLINE for submission by Karen "Kay" Ross: Next week, thursday 11th of June. And we will have new deadlines every week. We have created a concept for all stories. If you want to write, sent me an email, and I will sent you the concept: missingpieces2020@gmail.com :-) And to everybody in the world please #staysafe #staycreative #blm

Hey, Hidde Simons! Let's see if we can get more people on board, then! I can't tag people in the comment, but I can share this post's link via DM. Will you share this post with five actors in your network and ask them to comment and participate?

Walter Anaruk

I just saw this and clicked the link to youtube. One looked like it was just posted. Are you still doing this? I'd love to share and participate.

Hidde Simons

Hi Walter, thanks for your interest in Missing Pieces. The project is still in full effect. Last week we posted a monologue from Zanzibar and today we where filming one from Brasil. Let's see how you can participate. :-)

@Hidde COOL idea. Two way win, participants get thoughts off their chest and the audience enjoys cos its helps us realize we are not alone in this weird new world. Documentary style could morph later on into a fictional series once all this is over. (providing folk wanted to do this) I'm getting carried away now, remembering a streaming from real life course London film school. I did a lot of biking in the Netherlands in noughties living in the Haig and I'm hoping things are back to normal for you now in that respect. I miss the Netherlands, don't know if they still do the fresh herrings straight from river, gut them and then salt and vinegar? Fifteen years ago we used to walk back from work, have herrings and a few beers. Stay safe!
