Monolouge Help!!

Been search for a monologue that will best display my personality. I am currently looking for representation. So, what would be a good way to find something I'm able to connect to.

Gloria Terese McDonald

you should read a lot of plays and pick material that resonates with you on some level--if you're passionate about the material that will show in your audition. In terms of picking something that displays your personality, that's kind of hard to give advice on and it depends on what type of work you're after too.

Thanks for the helpful advice, im in the process now of trying to find something that will bring out my passion. Thanks again Gloria

Yikes, I know how hard it is to find a good monologue! I would start online, which is probably the opposite people say to do, but lot's of monologues from plays can be found. There are also monologues from movies too if you do a search. And the last resort would probably be books that have monologue content in them. I would go search your library or even amazon to see what monologue books are out there. I have one in particular called 221 monologues for woman, and to be honest, I didn't think the content that was in there was anything spectacular, a lot of it was really immature, but that is my honest opinion. And once you go through and read a lot of monologues, you'll know! You will get that feeling like dang, THIS is my monologue! You just gotta hunt. Good luck!

You could do all of the above and it would be legit and you could find a good piece. It take's a lot of time and searching through a lot of material that you may or may not have an affinity for... OR you could look to your favorite novel, one that speaks to you and that you have loved for a long time, find a character that drew you to that novel, again one that speaks to you, find a section that you think you could do well, within a min. or two, and cut it (if it's a two person conversation) into a monologue. There are no rules other than it makes sense & be done well. Some business people ( agents or managers) might wonder where its from, but you could always just say it's an original work by a new artist, if they ask at all. Once you find one...do the same process for several others (contrasting) and use them in rotation and for different types of auditions. Keep the good ones and use them in perpetuity (forever). It won't be long before you have a strong, kick ass audition ready to roll in 5 min or less. :)
