Best contest to enter for partial animation

I have my partial animation one out for proofing. Written animation wise like A Monster Calls. Real people and animation scenes. What is the best animation contest to enter?

Bob Harper

What are you trying to enter? A script, movie etc. Is it a short, or feature? What is the target audience?

Lisa Penner Dang

It’s a feature screenplay. Logline: A ten year old girl from Dingle Ireland tries to model her life after St. Brigid of Kildare. Being saintly is more challenging than she imagined.

Target audience would be family but I’m always confused with the family category. I do have a drag Queen red deer character who designs hats, a hoarder, a women with dementia & a agoraphobic that are like family that live in a flat together.

Elaine Haygood

Sounds more like something that would appeal to an older audience.

There have been some great animated features to come out of Ireland like the Book of Kels and Song of The Sea that I just LOVE (I'm hoping to add them to my Library on Vudu).

Also, have you considered that Saint Brigid is based on the Goddess Brigid? Could her journey to become like the saint connect her to the Goddess, perchance?

Anyhoo. The idea of blending animation with live-action isn't particularly new thinking of films like Invitation to The Dance and Who Framed Roger Rabbit particularly.

That being said, however, I think you will have to check out various festivals to see which ones would consider your film as meeting their criteria for what would qualify as an "Animated Film".

I would suggest you also look into regular festivals to see if those might be more in keeping with your project.

Also, have you considered seeing if there might be streaming services like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon that might be interested?

Thank you for your insight. It’s more of a family type script. Would love to have Netflix pick it up but no connections there.

Lisa Penner Dang Elaine has great insights, as usual, I don't know which animation festivals would be the best to deal with screenplays. Here is a list to the top tier ones https://www.animationcareerreview.com/articles/10-top-animation-film-festivals-around-globe

Netflix is in the middle of restructuring their kids animation division and probably not the best buyer at the moment. And as Elaine Haygood pointed out, you might see about it contending as a live-action piece.

My dream is attend the Animation festival in Dingle. We were in the middle of moving this year.
