Enjoy to be here

Hi fellow filmmakers,

I'm Lihui, an artist and director currently based in London. I love taking part of every part in filmmaking from writing, storyboarding, animating/shooting, editing, to post-production. I just finished my short film "Animal Religion". I enjoy discussing Mythology, philosophy, and symbols in different cultures that can enrich images and connect with the audience emotionally. I'm looking forward to meeting talented people here for my future collaboration.

Daniel Stuelpnagel

Cheers, Lihui, welcome to Stage 32!

Since you're on London time, you might notice throughout the week that a lot of people here in the Lounges emerge later in the day,

as many of them are on California time (I'm on the Mid-Atlantic coast USA so right in between as it were).

Already your image of the animal in a museum gallery delivers some intriguing connotations, is that going to convey the style of "Animal Religion"? I remember reading one of Barbara Kingsolver's early books "Animal Dreams."

Some recent neuroscience research in philosophy seems to suggest that we contemporary urban artists live in a time when we are assimilating technology and yet returning ourselves to a unified mentality of living in the forest metaphorically speaking,

living in nature and restoring our animal nature as a way to refute the friction of technological conflict.

So to connect with your audience emotionally, do you bring a specific intention or do you let the cinematic story freely translate the emotional language to an unspecified audience?

I'm working in adventure comedy so although there might be some useful subtext, for the most part my expression, themes and connection will be quite direct and overtly simple.

If you would like to share, what are the central elements of Animal Religion and where is this short film destined to appear?

Daniel Stuelpnagel Hey Daniel, thank you for the comment. Adventure comedy sounds exciting! I think Animal Religion shares a bit of that. You put out my central theme nicely already. The theme is a group of innocent animals guiding humans to solve various kinds of alienation caused by technology. I've never thought any specific emotions I want to convey but people usually find my film funny and thought-provoking. We are submitting it to festivals at the moment and no further plans other than that.

Geoff Hall

Lila Liang this is very intriguing, Lila. Do you have a trailer you could share with the community?
