Is anyone out there familiar with Kabuki Animation developed by that great innovator Michael Ferraror, one of the founders of Blue Sky Studios? I am just wondering if anyone is familiar with nay of the variations on it that are now being developed using UNITY and 3D MAX? Love to hear from anyone in the know. Thanks.

BTW I have seen demonstrations done by professional puppeteers manipulating 3D characters on screen just using their hands. The puppeteers said that it was easy to get used to and was very much like handling a rod puppet. Reminded me of some of the glove RC developed by Henson back in the early days when Jim was alive.

Marza animation is pushing the drive to using Unity, as they come at animation from a gaming background.

Laurie, I saw Marza Animation Planet's test short, The Gift. which was made with Unity. I was impressed with it fluidity and the way the characters were put through their paces. Are you in animation?

Graham P. Halky

OK, I am impressed with your track record and credentials. I was going to ask you what you had on your wish list in animation, but it looks like you are already headed to awesomeness. I am working on a couple of animation projects right now that require a seamless blending of 3D animation with live puppets for a TV Show. Unity seems like a good solution. Would you agree? One puppet is a bird and the other is a fish. I am hoping that the texturing will be far less complicated than fur if handled by someone with lots of experience in that area. The project is based in NY, but we are casting our eyes as far away as LA, Toronto and Rome.

That sounds great, Graham. Check out Artella.com you may find someone across the globe. Let me know if you have any questions. My son is into puppeteering so I'd love to see your work! As far as my wish, a more integrated technology of 2d and 3d so every character doesn't look like it was spit out of a toy factory mold -- KLAUS (from SPA studios in Madrid and Canada) seems to be going in the right direction in that regard.

Graham P. Halky

Thank you. You have given me a lot of food for thought. I will checkout Artella.com. I liked what SPA Studios is working on right now: KLAUS. Beautiful work. I would be more than happy to show you my work, if you don't mind signing an NDA and sharing your email. I will get beaten over the head by our legal department, if I don't have you sign an NDA. I can show it to you as an "advisor". Tell me how old is your son, the puppeteer? I am assuming he is fairly young. We have some of the top puppeteers in the country working with us on this project of ours including Paul McGinnis, Randy Carfagno and David Fino, all of MUPPET, SESAME STREET and BEAR IN THE BIG BLUE HOUSE fame. My email is grahamhalky@earthlink.net if you are OK with that.
