Hoolywood Party (Kenneth Lloyd Billingsley)

A MUST READ story about the Communist infiltration of Hollywood that covers the unionization/strikes/and movie stars involved in the pro-Stalinist era in the 20, 30,40 & 50s. Do you think you know about the blacklisting/McCarthy hearings from movies made about the Hollywood Ten? McCarthy was never involved in the Hollywood hearings by HUAC (there were two of them) and it was the communists who did the blacklisting, not the government. Those blacklisted were the "19 friendly witnesses" who testified that the Communists actively sought out membership because, to them, movies were the perfect vehicle for propaganda. Bogey/Bacall/Charlie Chaplin/Brecht/ Gene Kelly/Hepburn/Tracey/Kirk Douglas/Burt Lancaster/Sterling Hayden/ Paul Robeson/Lena Horne/ etc. etc. Plus writers, directors, producers --- and the villains? Studio moguls. They weren't just Lefties ... they were members of the Party. Well researched, documented, and after all these years ... the backstory is hardly ever mentioned after the revelations about the millions killed by Stalin who died in 1953. It's a real eye-opener. Billingsley is an accessible writer.
