Read a Good Book Lately? : Quentin Taranatino, the Man and His Movies by Vasco Phillip de Sousa

Vasco Phillip de Sousa

Quentin Taranatino, the Man and His Movies

Yes, this is an old book, dealing with the start of his career. (I think he'd only just made Pulp Fiction when it was written.) But, because of that, it's more useful to aspiring directors, actors and writers.

This is the perfect anecdote to the "no film school" fraudsters who try to tell you what you "have to do" to make a film. Learn that Tarantino didn't write unpaid short films, enter countless never-heard-of film festivals, or give away free options. Sure, he didn't go to film school, and he made mistakes along the way, but he was well read, he watched a lot of films, and he worked hard to get where he was.

The details about how each film was optioned, sold, commissioned is very interesting. Remember to adjust the numbers for inflation though, a lot of this happened a long time ago. A lot of this information isn't available online.

I'm not a huge Tarantino fan, but I found it interesting anyway.
