As a novelist I was interested in the screenplay style of this book and found it surprisingly engaging. Good story too. Her latest, Magical Beasts and where to find them is also in screenplay form. I wonder if this will start a new genre of novels.
I don't think so. I've heard complaints from lots of people in my circle who say when they bought her first book that came out as a screenplay they felt 'cheated' and wanted a proper story to read. People only bought the books because it was part of the JKR stable and wanted to add them to their collections. Shame really. I love screenwriting. It's a quicker method of getting the whole story down. Novels are enjoyable to write, but they take a heck of a lot more time!
You are so right, novels take ages, and I love dialogue, my stories are carried more my the conversations I think. I've not tried screen writing yet and wavering other whether to write my next idea as a novel or screenplay - I think I might cut my teeth by taking one of my existing novels and re writing as a screenplay, see how that works.
