There's this great scene sequence in Lawrence of Arabia where T.E. goes off by himself to solve the problem of approaches to Aqaba, Washington does the same thing in The Crossing, and in this book DaVinci does likewise. This concentration while alone seems to be the hallmark of figuring out solutions, and it strikes me as a good habit to emulate. The moment of insight may be the AHA! but the reality is, before that moment is the laser-like attention to the problem as a whole. I like that. My time isn't wasted when I start to write about how my characters are going to solve the problems they encounter.
