Cinematography : Your favourite Cinematographer? by Geoff Hall

Your favourite Cinematographer?

Out of this list, well of course my love affair with Roger Deakins continues, but out of the rest Christopher Doyle stands out to me. I love Chungking Express (shared DoP), In the Mood for Love and 2046 which are some of my favourite films.

Another question, with In the Mood o Love t the forefront of my mind, is does the musical composition enhance our experience of the cinematography?

How about you, who is your favourite Cinematographer? What are your favourite examples of their work?

I have to say that I am a huge fan of classic cinema. There were a lot of greats but I'm going to sound like a total fanboy here -

Is there such a thing as too much Toland?

Greg Toland was my absolute favorite Cinematographer. I believe that every scene in Grapes of Wrath was a masterpiece in how to explore Ansel Adams Photographic Zones.
