This was a post I made last night on FB. If you have or intend to score an IMAX film, this could be an interesting conversation for you. My question concerns the audio track of IMAX films. My observation last night may pertain to: (a) that particular IMAX theater sound system, or (b) the audio track of that particular film as created/mixed by Disney or (c) audio tracks of all IMAX films.
This is not my area of expertise and so I am looking forward to the discussion. The "Fountains" is a very large 20+ theater AMC complex here in Southwest Houston.
"Question for you audio engineering types. Was at the Fountains this evening watching Aladdin at the Imax. The sound all came from the front screen and when it got loud, the orchestra sounded like just one big ball of sound sort of what you hear when you stand in front of DJ Speakers.
I get Imax audio is different from Dolby Surround 7.1 which is what I would have heard in a regular theater. But this audio sounded awful.
Was it the Fountains Imax audio setup to blame or is do all Imax sound systems sound like that?"
