Interested in marketing my songs

If you go by Ralph Murphy's specific definition of a "songwriter" which is "someone who makes a living writing songs", then I am not one. I am simply a "person who writes songs". I don't know if I believe in that distinction. I think you can be a songwriter and never have profited off it. In fact there are probably a lot of songwriters who do get paid and still never profit off it. The other can be "professional" songwriter. I've been in the shadows trying to improve my catalog before I take any real steps with it. But I'm too "married with children" to do any touring. So, I do SoundCloud and ReverbNation and not worry too much about being everyone's fan so I can artificially inflate my fan numbers. Maybe I'll try TAXI when I think my writing and recordings are at the right level. Is there anyone left out there trying to keep it real? Is there hope for us closet songwriters? Ha, take that Ralph Murphy.

Hi, James. Brandi pointed me at your post, which I found interesting. Everyone's story is different, of course, but I see some similarities in our experiences. In my case, I've been writing lyrics since I was 14 but it took a long time to meet the right people and start working with professional musicians. It's a slow process and I'm still far from having reached the point where I can say that I'm earning a living out of it. Someday, perhaps. I'm a patient guy, anyway, so all's good, ha!

That's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the response
