Hi Creative Army (I just made that up ;) ... Who else is here with a strong love and focus to create music for film/TV that is reminiscent of pop and rock circa 1955-1980? We like interesting chord progressions, innovative melodies, and diverse beats, especially when skilled to blend these classic elements with modern production techniques.

why restrict yourself to 1955 - you leave out the likes of Gershwin, Ellington, and Cole Porter just to name three. Arlen's "Over The Rainbow" from 1939 is considered one of the top songs of the 20th century - in fact why not listen to all the 'best song Oscars' from before 1955.
How about this (and I use these links for 'comparison purposes' and not for promotion). There is even public domain pop material being used in many different formats from even earlier.
Take for example this pop song, "After You've Gone" from 1918 - first my arrangement (for a film) and then a dixieland arrangement. Think about how many different ways there can be to express the melodies and chord progressions of 100 year old material! :)

Andy Norell has a Pan version of Over the Rainbow - heard EKU percussion ensemble do it one year. Interested in writing - have Dorico now - it’s quite a nice music notation program to use. Have a great weekend. K. Kennard
It's great to see that songs from time pas is still relevant. This is the staying power of music. We songwriters are creating new original music today too! www. rachelwalkertrio.com
