I went to the midnight screening of The Hateful Eight. 3 hrs and 8 mins of 70mm with an intermission and an overture of Ennio Morricone's score. It seems oddly fated that Tarantino would work with Ennio and the score is excellent. It fits beautifully with the cinematography and the story but does not rely on the cliches of his spaghetti western films. It's really cool. So...if you are a Tarantino fan, go. If not but you have a strong stomach it's worth it for the music.

I've heard such mixed reviews about The Hateful Eight... this is the first that I've heard of the score being excellent...that just might push me over the edge to go see it.

And The Oscar goes to Ennio.
It was great to see Mr. Morricone get a standing ovation at the Oscars. He's definitely one of the greatest composers of all time. Tarantino has used a lot of Mr. Morricone's songs in some of his other films through the years. He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame a few days before he won the Oscar. Imagine how cool it must be to be in Mr. Morricone's studio in Rome. He built it around 50 years ago, and has done the majority of his work in there. Talk about living the dream.
