Frustration and Advice: Casting

So we are in the process of casting for a short film (first stage is video audition with provided sides). as it’s our first own audition, we just thouht we’d ask for advice from you guys we just got back from one of our candidates who told us she --instead of doing the provded sides -- ’chose’ to do other, completely non related monologue instead. Upon review of the ’audition’, it even goes against everything our character represents initial thought... don’t mind us, we just wrote the characters...how would we know what they should sound like? TOTES understand how you feel these unrelated pieces of dialogue will make us see you’re right for the job... so yes we feel a bit of frustration and -since candidate chose to do own lines instead of provided ones- makes us wonder if candidate would be not-the-greatest at memorizing lines So here’s our question: if you hold an audition (whether you do it via video or P2P) and one of the candidates pulls a stunt like that, would it be an imediate ’no’, ask them to explain and base upon their explenation, would you give em the chance to come back to you with provided sides or how would you handle it?

Thanks for your advice, Julio!

John Stimpson

Absolutely. An immediate "no!" Move on. That is extremely unprofessional of that actor.

Evelien And Dorien Twins

Thank you, John.

Geoff Hall

Say goodbye. If they're like this at the audition, imagine what they'd be like taking directions from a Director!

G.R. Barnett

Yeah that would be an immediate no. O_o Wow, some people!

Evelien And Dorien Twins

Thanks everyone, it's good to know that we weren't wrong in following our gut feeling.
