Get a kick out of "Kick'n Cousins" - edited and VFX in HitFilm Express!
Our (my wife Pamela Hill & me) latest episode of our web series "That Darn Girlfriend" showcases some cool "split screen" effects done in HitFilm Express. Both of us play all characters, the masking tool has become our best friend in letting us clone ourselves. In our other episodes (Especially with Season 2), we've been doing more VFX. Working on this show gives me a chance to try out different effects. To me, the true test is the audience doesn't see the magic and believes it's real.
I get to do some martial arts (in a comedic fashion) in this one. Been training for most of my life so it was fun for me to incorporate kung fu and solve the problem of how to kick a focus mitt that is also being held by me playing the other character. All while shooting an EXT -DAY location. Quick tip -- work as fast as you can before the sun moves too much, or lighting won't match!
I also use the Three-Strip color grading feature to get that saturated 1960s "Technicolor" look.
