You can put anything in a film as long as it's Visually Compelling and Makes Sense Intellectually. Some have used separate pieces of film for Flashback, Tandem Narrative Storylines or Montage. Does not necessarily have to be a sizzle for feature. It could be part of someone's past, nightmare or simple revelation. Some argue that "cinematography" needs to "match" so put together it does not look patchwork but particularly in Noir camera distortions are done on purpose.
Yes. If you want to do things legally contact the studio/distributor and ask for their clip and licensing dept. They’ll let you know how much it will cost for however many minutes you need.
How would I know which studio? I don't even know the title of the movie you wish to select the clip from. Find the clip you want to use; it's in a movie; look at the opening credits to see whom released it. That's whom you contact.
